Swag Tylor, our featured artist, is a Yamatji man born in Merredin in Ballardong country (part of Western Australia). Although born in Ballardong country, Swag spent most of his life in Whadjuk country (part of Western Australia) and considers himself a Nyoongar and Jamatji man. At the age of 16, Swag was tutored in painting by artists from the world-famous Carrolup Group - the style of art made famous by the schoolboy artists at Carrolup Mission. These artists developed a unique style of expression using scenes of hunting, landscapes, and depicting the memories of traditional cultural activities in the south-west.
