Mia's Story

“Employability Skills Training with Kuditj Training was the steppingstone I needed to prepare me for the workforce and helped me find a job!”

“Before signing up, I lived in a bubble, wanted to gain independence, and become employed but did not know where to begin. I often felt like I was stuck and alone in my situation, that I was destined to be turned down for an interview after interview. On my very first day, I found myself surrounded by people in similar situations to myself, and I no longer felt like a failure.

I realised that there were so many factors as to why we were all struggling to get work. The biggest one that almost all of us had in common was our lack of self-worth. We were unaware of the skills we possessed and the qualities employers look for, but most importantly, we were unaware of how our mindset limited our potential. Within the first week, I found myself thinking more positively about myself, thinking more about where I wanted to be in the future and learned to create my motivation and inspiration rather than expecting it to just float to me on the breeze. As the course went on, I became more confident in myself and my abilities; I no longer avoided talking to strangers and found myself pushing my boundaries in hopes of growing as a person.

I learned how to properly structure and write both a resume and a cover letter, completed industry-specific OHS modules, learned how to recognise my skills, attributes, and experience, and present them to get the attention of possible future employers developed interview skills. Once I started the course, it opened my eyes to the number of young adults in the same situation as I was. I wanted to be in a different situation yet struggled to get my toe in the door. The first week was a very therapeutic and reflective experience. It helped me gain confidence and reshape the way I thought about myself. The whole experience helped me recognise my skills and qualities, taught me how to write and structure both a resume and a cover letter, and gave me interview skills.

Every day at the Employability Skills Training, I learned something new that will benefit me for the rest of my life. A lot of the credit for my enjoyment and success in the course goes to both my eagerness to soak in as much information as I could and the passionate and personable trainers. They encouraged us to get out of our comfort zones and to aim for an industry we would enjoy instead of letting us settle for anything less. During my time with Kuditj Training, I found a whole new sense of self and self-worth, learned skills necessary for a workplace environment, and developed real-world interview skills.

At the end of the three-week course, I was offered a part-time job. I ended the first block with more confidence, increased the number of job interviews I was accepted for, and a job I love. I have found a new sense of self, a stronger and healthier mind and skills and knowledge that I can implement in various professional situations that may present themselves to me in the future. Without this experience, I firmly believe I would not be in the position I am in today. I am endlessly thankful for the self-confidence and skills that I developed by being a part of Employability Skills Training with Kuditj Training”.
